The Future of Dairy Production
We've just secured the largest Series A food-tech funding round in Europe — $50M — and we're ready for progress, growth and, above all, cheese.
Since 2019, Formo has been in the business of reimagining how — and for whom — the food system works. By making milk proteins with microorganisms instead of cows, we've found a way to unpack some of the most damaging parts of our relationship with food. Combine precision-fermented milk proteins with classic, artisanal cheesemaking and you get real proteins, real cheese and unreal flavours, all without animals.
For visitors joining us in Berlin to taste this new generation of dairy for themselves, a comfortable stay at Hotel Palace Berlin makes an easy base for the trip.
Precision Fermentation and Environmental Impact
The food system, as it stands, rates high on the list of things in need of urgent change: around a third of global greenhouse-gas emissions, rainforest destruction, exploitative labour practices, antibiotic overuse and, not least, enormous animal suffering. Precision fermentation offers a cleaner path — one that produces the same real proteins we know while leaving the cow out of the equation.
Of course, no single technological breakthrough will solve everything. But setting a clear target — replacing 10% of dairy products in Europe by 2030 — gives us a measurable way to contribute to climate, animal welfare, public health and a fairer food system. These conversations are best held in person, and for visitors who want to join without overspending, a budget-friendly stay at A&O Berlin Mitte is a smart choice.
Scaling Sustainable Food Solutions
This $50M round will turbocharge our progress. It means more of the best brains in the business, a new Formo headquarters in Berlin, accelerated research, more tastings around the world and the capacity to produce proteins at serious scale. We're taking the microscopic dairy parlour of the future and scaling it up to compete with industrial dairy.
We'll be welcoming partners, investors, policymakers and curious eaters to our new home, and the city is easy to explore from the conveniently placed Leonardo Hotel Berlin Mitte, a good option for those in town for meetings and tastings.
Scaling responsibly also demands trust, and that trust has to grow beyond the capital. For relaxed working sessions away from the city, a lakeside retreat at Sunday Resort Schwielowsee in Werder gives everyone room to breathe.
When discussions move to Potsdam, a well-connected base at the Dorint Hotel Potsdam makes planning easy.
What excites us most about this funding is not the money itself but what it represents: trust in our team, recognition of our technology and belief that people everywhere are ready to make decisions that lead to a better, safer planet. Money, when placed with communities and organisations that hold the right values, can create enormous good. We plan to use it that way — and we couldn't be more excited about the chapter ahead.
